Premjit Lall Grass Court Tennis Carnival
As a homage to Late Premjit Lall, our annual grass court tennis carnival was named Premjit Lall Grass Court Tennis Carnival. It was played on Sunday, the 8th. February 2009, from 11 a.m. with record number of 64 entries. Apart from members of the club of all ages, 11 years old Marium Javed ( daughter of Mr.Akhtar Ali’s daughter Nilofer) was the youngest and age less Bijli man Mr. Ranjit Kar was the oldest, players from other clubs took part in the carnival. The 32 pairs selected by drawing lots for partnership and divided in four groups played best of five games on round robin basis till the quarter final stage. As Indian and State ranked players had taken part, nearly all matches were of high standard and closely contested. Two pairs winning highest number of games in each group qualified for the knock out stage from quarter finals. Semis and Final were played on the basis of ten point tie breaks. Farid Alam and Aditya Dugar were the winners beating B.N.Dhupar and Harman Preet Singh.
Messrs. Subrata Bose, former President of the club and a Member of Parliament now; Sushil Mehrotra, President of BTA and Hon. Justice Jiten N. Chowdhury (retired),our non- working Vice-President, were the Guest of Honour at the Prize Distribution Ceremony. Mrs. Madhuri Sukhthankar, sister of Premjit Lall, gave away the prizes to all the participants. The programme ended at 5.30 p.m. with high tea.
